The German Federal Environment Agency (“Umweltbundesamt”) considers the energy recovery of waste as an essential part of a sustainable waste management.
According to “Umweltbundesamt”, waste incineration plants contribute in a relevant way to climate protection and saving resources. The principle of waste avoidance takes priority over waste recycling and waste disposal indeed. However, waste incineration do not hinder high recycling rates. In a new position paper, “Umweltbundesamt” presents a detailed status analysis which includes 10 aspects dealing with this subject. “Umweltbundesamt” explains therewith the results achieved by its own as well as environmental institutions researchs.
