According to the foundation “Stiftung Auto Recycling Schweiz” (SARS), the recovery of adequate pre-treated shredder residues in waste incineration plants enables metals retrieval and energy production.
Up to now, no teatment processes exist, which guarantee an environmentally friendly recovery of shredder residues demanded by politics and law. SARS therefore supports the co-incineration of these residues in waste incineration plants as “basis solution with room for improvement” for energy production.
SARS informs that in 2007 shredder factories sent 55,096 t shredder residues to waste management plants, thereof 19,506 t ex end-of-life vehicles. The cheapest price for disposal were 190 Francs/t demanded by “Sächsische Recyclingwerke”; “MVA Iserlohn” asked for 410 Francs/t and “Citron” for 373 Francs/t on average.
